Chewy Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies are delicious—and definitely the backbone of most cookies. Let's face it—sugar cookies are like the canvas to a painting. You can put whatever you want on them. You can put sprinkles, dip them in chocolate, dip them in strawberry glaze. You have sooo many things that you can do with this delicious cookie. All that it takes is a little bit of work and imagination on your part! However, this requires you to know how to make the cookies in the first place...so, here you go!

Ingredients:

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt
2 ½ all purpose flour
2 sticks unsalted butter at room temperature
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs

Preheat your oven to 350' and in a medium bowl combine the dry ingredients—except for the sugar.

Then, using an electric mixer, mix together the sugar and the butter on medium high until it's fluffy. Then, beat in the eggs one at a time and then add in the vanilla. Then, reduce the speed of the blender to low and add the flour gradually. Do not over-mix, it will make it a lot harder to work with this particular type of dough.

Then, drop a tablespoon-full or so of mix onto the pan, spaced about two inches apart. Make sure that you leave enough space so that they don't end up sticking and you don't have to separate them with a spatula.

You should bake them until they start to brown at the edges—about fifteen or so minutes. Once you're done, let them cool completely.

However, that's not all for this simple cookie recipe. As stated before, sugar cookies are just the canvas for the many additions to the cookie world. This simple cookie recipe gives birth to many variations. For example, you can dip them in chocolate. Or you can ice them and add sprinkles! Or put the sprinkles on after you dip them in chocolate. It's up to you what you want—you can even use a cookie cutter as a kind of mask so that you can put shapes and designs into your cookie!

These are just a few ideas. You can also put strawberry glaze or another glaze on top of your sugar cookies—or a variety of other things. The main thing is to enjoy this simple cookie recipe and use your imagination, just like any other artist would!
